A Practical Guide to Retail Fixture Liquidation

A Practical Guide to Retail Fixture Liquidation

Retail fixtures are a different asset class than office furniture, and treating them the same way usually leaves money on the table. Display units, slatwall systems, and branded fixtures have a resale market that's smaller but more specific than general office liquidation.

Separate branded from unbranded fixtures early. Fixtures with visible store branding typically have no resale value outside your own chain and should go straight to recycling or storage. Unbranded shelving, gondolas, and display cases hold value for other retailers and secondhand fixture dealers.

POS equipment and payment terminals need the same data-security treatment as office IT equipment. Card data, loyalty program information, and network credentials should be wiped to the same standard as any other data-bearing device before resale or disposal.

For multi-location closures, sequence stores by lease-end date, not convenience. A landlord walkthrough deadline is a hard constraint; a sister location with more flexible timing can wait while crews prioritize the site with the closest deadline.
